Advisor that is terrified of Snakes

Philosophy | August 27, 2009

James Bailey is known for giving good solid advice. However, he is terrified of snakes. Let's say you are having financial problems, and you ask him for advice.

He would sit you down at his kitchen table, show you what the Bible says about the situation at hand, and in a mild and humble voice, he would say, "It is better to have and not need, then to need and not have."

Which means do not live above your means. He is always saying this. He is an eighty-year old African American, he is tall, slender, light-skinned. He was born in Bayton, Missouri. He had two brothers and three sisters (who are all deceased now). He never misses Sunday school, he sits on the Deacon board of the church.

He loves to listen to the gospel music of Mighty Clouds of Joy on his ancient Motorola record player, sitting in his rocking chair tapping his foot to the beat. He also reads his bible daily.

He loves to lie in his bed and watch the western channel on t.v.now if a snake comes on the television set you will hear a loud noise like,"iawiaw" coming from his room, with the cover on his head just a screaming.

Now this man dresses very fashionably. Freshly cleaned and pressed suits, but Mon-Fri he wears old clothing like a pair of pants that are out of style and a awful shirt that don't even match the pants.

James and his first wife Gertrude Bailey, were married for forty-eight years. She died in August of 1985.They couldn't have children so they adopted a little girl (which is me). Then he married Addie Bobo, they were married for twenty-one years and between them both there are five children.

James continue to give his warm and biblical advice to the young and old.

"A man who blames everyone hasn't begun his education, a man who blames himself began his education, a man that blames no one has finish his education."

My father is never going to get over the fear of snakes. He can handle just about anything but that. Although, I don't see my father often, I will always have a special place in my heart for the man who took me in and raised me from diapers to dating and then some.
