A Walk on the Beach

To go for a walk on the beach is one of life's greatest pleasures. The ocean constantly changes and thunderous surf one day can quickly become a small ripple the next. Out to sea gulls and gannetts dive and swoop in their search for the next meal while small cormorants patrol the shallows.

If you are fortunate to live in northern New South Wales you may spot a southern right whale breaching on its annual northern migration. These majestic animals have a variety of moves for us land based mammals to watch. They often seem to leap out of the water altogether creating a large splash or just roll over on one side, gently slapping the water with their dorsal fin.

Along the high water mark crabs scurry amongst an interesting mix of seaweed, shells and various forms of plastic and rubbish. This area is also patrolled seagulls eagerly awaiting a hot chip or the chance to steal some fishing bait.On the dunes people are sun-baking and the sounds of children playing carry on the breeze.

So if your work is getting you down, just go for a stroll along the beach and let nature take over your thoughts.Breathe deeply, feel the breeze, let the water lap your toes. The world is not such a bad place after all.
