DNSChanger Trojan

So you're having problems with your updating your Windows Vista system? Not just using Windows Update, but also updating other software such as Windows Defender, MalwareBytes, and other necessary software for your computer. When you try updating your windows applications you may get the follow errors:

Windows Defender

0x80190194 i.e. HTTP 404 "Page not found" error

For windows updates you may get the following errors:

Errors: 80240016

Error 0x80072EFD

There are several things you may try. Besides checking the official microsoft help, you could try entering the following code into your Command Prompt (i.e. Programs Search) in your Start Menu:

sfc /scannow

If that doesn't work, then you may have a trojan called DNSChanger, which will alter your DNS settings. To remove it, you may want to look into installing the MalwareBytes Anti-Malware program which perfectly removes the software.

You may also want to install and run Spybot: Search & Destroy, HijackThis, and Ad-aware to make your computer. All of the software mentioned here is free; MalwareBytes has a shareware version with limited functionability but it will do the job.

After you run the MalwareBytes scan, make sure you reboot your computer (a Hard Reboot is recommended). You might get the following error when updating Windows Defender first:

0x8024001b

In this case, run Windows Update first. You should be good to go. For more info, contact me at cop.no.bic [at] gmail [dot] com.
