The best parts of travel in her mind are the eating, drinking, music and different cultural experiences. Hopefully some of these things will be reflected in her writings on Flickspin!

Michael Franti Saves the Day Again

Latest blog post from Thinking out loud
Music | August 29, 2008

Today stared badly. I got up at 6.35am and everything seemed okay, I put on the kettle, had a shower and started to make my tea. Then, my boyfriend told me he didn't want tea and was feeling sick. Rather than being a loving, caring girlfriend I instead got completely bummed out about drinking tea alone and sulked my way through 1.5 hours until I left for work. I started to feel quite bad in the last 15 minutes when I realised my boyfriend was actually in quite a terrible state and apologised profusely for my childish, selfish and self-absorbed behaviour, but I was still in a funk as I grabbed my coffee and headed for the bus.

I decided some music was in order and popped in my earphones. I always find it a challenge deciding what to listen to, because my music taste of the moment is so influenced by my current mood. But, when I'm feeling shitty I know the last thing I should do is crank up Tori Amos and live out my woes with her. So, I decided on Michael Franti.

By the time my bus had arrived and I'd grooved through the first couple of songs on his album Everyone Deserves Music I was really starting to feel a whole lot better, and when Love Invincible finally worked it's way around I was starting to smile inanely at strangers, pitying them their glum looks and overcast demeanors.

Music is powerful (to say the least) and it blows me away every time it lifts me from my blues and makes my day 1000 times better than it was before. Thank you Michael Franti, everyone does deserve music.
